Reproduction

We are pleased to introduce the newly established Large Animal Reproduction Referral Service at the University of Sydney’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden. This service is designed to support you with challenging reproductive cases and problem mares, enhancing the level of care available to your clients. The reproduction service will be available via the Camden Equine Centre and Livestock Veterinary Services.

In addition to our regular artificial breeding services, we now offer specialised procedures such as embryo transfer and stallion semen cryopreservation. Our team is equipped to assist with equine infertility workups using advanced diagnostics and treatments, including:

• Uterine biopsy
• Low-volume uterine lavage culture
• Hysteroscopy
• Twin management, including both transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasound-guided twin ablation
• High-risk pregnancy management, including placentitis treatment and foetal monitoring
• Semen analysis, from basic evaluations like motility and morphology to advanced DNA analysis and flow cytometry on request

Additionally, we offer a range of reproductive surgeries with our specialised equine surgeons, including:

• Perineal body repair and reconstructive surgery
• Laparoscopic uteropexy
• Hysteroscopic intrauterine cyst removal
• Scheduled caesarean section
• Cryptorchid castration
