A new study reveals that sex prejudice towards horses is real! Riders and trainers have preconceived ideas about horse behaviour, temperament, and rideability based solely on the sex of the horse, but this study suggests there are no real behavioural differences between ridden mares and gelding.

There was some sex-related behavioural difference revealed in unridden mares and geldings. For example, gelding’s are more likely to chew on rugs and lead-ropes, undo gates and shy away from umbrellas while mare’s are more likely to avoid being caught, pull back, walk fences and call out when taken away from their paddock mates.
